About Team JEC Race for the Cure

Dear Family & Friends-
Please join TEAM JEC for SONDRA SLONE under the direction of our own, Kelly Dyas, in the fight against breast cancer by virtually walking or donating to this incredible cause. To donate directly or join our virtual team for the Race for the Cure, CLICK HERE

In the past we have walked in honor of Cindy Dyas, the mother of our Regional Program Director, Kelly Dyas. This year we are adding our very own Miss Sondra Slone, the mother of our CEO Michele Rapp, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, to our list. Sondra received the unfortunate news that she had breast cancer and has already undergone a breast removal and started radiation. This all transpired within a month from diagnosis to surgery to radiation. To say she is fighter is an understatement. For those of you who know Miss Sondra, you know she has been such a staple and huge part of our JEC community. She has inspired our young explorers to discover various new outlets including cooking, baking, gardening, proper etiquette and her favorite to share, ballroom dancing! We “walk” in support of her and all our other family & friends who have been impacted by cancer.

Not new to the world of Race for the Cure, our very own Kelly Dyas, has strong ties to the race through her mother, Cindy Dyas.

Cindy Dyas was more than a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer she was one of the local Columbus driving forces behind the inception that brought The Race for the Cure to Columbus in 1993. She then served on the Board of the Race Committee and has walked in all but one race. She devoted her time generously to helping others battle cancer.  In October 2005, Cindy was the first recipient of The Cindy Dyas Award of Heroism.  This award is presented annually by the Race for the Cure and given to a long-term breast cancer survivor whose courage, determination and steadfastness in the fight against breast cancer has advanced the search for a cure and given strength to others.

Cindy lost her battle to Cancer in December 2005, but what she instilled in her friends and family through her drive to continue fighting this dreaded disease will last forever. Cindy’s namesake lives on through Kelly’s daughter, Cindy, who shares the same joy and vivacious spirit her grandmother did.

We have all been affected by this disease in one way or another, “walk” or donate in honor, remembrance, and in celebration of them.  To join our team or donate directly, please click the link below.

We have also added a donation only site here if you wish to donate through our website.

Thank you,

Kelly Dyas, Michele Rapp & Sondra Slone
